Medical studies at the University of Szeged
The first two years of the General Medicine programme serve as the foundation of basic medical knowledge. After the third year training is extended with regular clinical practice, in which students actively participate in the work of clinical departments and teaching hospitals. Furthermore, the Faculty’s excellent scientific laboratories offer a wide range of opportunities to students who would like to pursue scientific research of the highest standard. During the last two semesters, students rotate through different medical specialties and treat patients under the supervision of physicians. At the end of this apprenticeship they are ready to start their careers as physicians.

Tuition fee
€7,900 per semester
1st semester – 11th semester: 7900 EUR The schedule of tuition fee payment is determined on the basis of consulate/visa regulations. In case of applicants coming from visa restricted countries, payment of the full tuition fee (1st and 2nd semester) is required. Details are indicated in the letter of admission. The tuition fee is subject to change if the students’ academic progress does not follow the suggested study plan. The tuition fee includes general health insurance valid for Hungary, however it does not include the costs of summer practices, textbooks, accommodation and living expenses. |
Application fee
€300 one-time The above fee is a combined application and entrance examination / evaluation fee which is to be paid only once regardless of the number of applied health science programmes (maximum 3 programmes) and includes a maximum of two examination chances in case it is offered by the Faculty. |
Entry requirements
High school / secondary education (or higher) 1. Applicants are required to be over the age of 18 in the year of application (by December 31). There is no upper age limit. 2. Applications are accepted from graduates of accredited high schools or colleges/universities. According to the decision of the Admission Committee of the Faculty, students who have failed in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or English Language in the final year of their high school studies are not entitled to apply to the programme. Applicants are also eligible to submit their application and sit for an entrance examination if they are in their final year but have not received the School Leaving Certificate or Diploma yet. In this case, applicants must present proof that they are attending high school. 3. Applicants are required to sit for an entrance examination. Applicants are allowed to participate in a maximum of two examinations in one application period if the chance is offered by the Faculty. 4. Holders of the following degrees can be exempted from sitting for the entrance examination: GCE A2 levels IB Diploma BSc Degree The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original. It is required that you send verified copies (not the originals) of the entry qualification documents directly to the university by postal mail only after the acceptance! |

Transfer from other Universities Students who have successfully pursued medical studies at other accredited universities in English language can apply for admission without being obliged to take an entrance examination. Preconditions of transfer are set by the Faculty. Admission to an upper year might be possible if subjects of previous studies (not older than 5 years) identical or at least 75% similar to the curriculum of the University of Szeged are approved. Please note that according to the regulations of the Medical School, transfer is possible solely if the student obtains at least half of the credit points assigned to the 6-year medical program at the diploma-issuing institution, the University of Szeged. Detailed information on the relevant curriculum and the study plans is available at Transfer students might be subject to take evaluation examinations (online) in certain subjects. Evaluation examinations are organized individually. Detailed information about the examination dates and exam registration will be sent to the applicant after the submission of all application documents. |
